He married the widow of John Hawkins of Mecklenburg County, VA, about 1757 or 1758, by whom he received a considerable life estate and was possessed thereof until the death of his wife in Jan 1787. In 1796 he moved from Granville Co., NC, to KY, insolvent." [Another record says John Potter died in 1782 Rutherford Co., NC.] 9 Sep 1786 - John Potter mortgatges to Lewis and Henry Potter mill and land. Notes for Mary Howard: Mary Howard married 1st Thomas Hawkins of Lunenburg Co., VA. She and John Potter, her 2nd husband, were executors of Thomas Hawkins' estate. John Potter and Mary moved to Rutherford Co., NC by 1780-1781. |
