The John Rowland who died in 1780 in Henry Co VA and calls Michael Rowland his bother may have come out of Amelia Co VA. Several Rowland deeds are found in Amelia Co VA. Note: 1720 - Brunswick formed from Isle of Wight, Prince George, & Surry Co's. 1735 - Amelia formed from Prince George & Brunswick Co's. 1745 - Brunswick divided - the western part became Lunenburg Co which included Pittsylvania Co. 1752 - Halifax Co created out of Lunenburg and included what is today Pittsylvania Co. 1767 - Pittsylvania Co was cut off from Halifax County. 1777 - Henry Co from Pittsylvania Co. 1. 3 Jun 1745 Robert Rowland patents 400A in Amelia Co VA on the SS Lazaritta [Lazaretto] Crk on the long Branch adj Edward Robertson and Christopher Robertson. Notes: Christopher and Henry Robertson/Roberson are from Prince Geo Co VA: 1. Mary Robinson b 3 Jun 1720 and baptized 17 Dec 1720 Prince Geo Co Bristol Par d/o Christopher and Sarah Robinson. 2. Christopher Roberson deed of lease to Henry Roberson, his son for 5 shillings 150A BS Woody Crk of Deep Crk. DB 1 Pg 280 19 Mar 1740. Sarah, wife of Christopher releases dower 20 Mar 1740. 3. Henry Robertson, prob Christopher brother, came from Prince Geo according to a deed given by Henry Robertson of Amelia Co and his wife Ann to several people for property in Prince Geo Co in 1759. See Prince Geo Pg 121 13 Nov 1759 Wills and Deeds. Also, based on a 1749 deed Henry and Anne Robertson of Amelia sold land land in Lunenburg Co VA. 2. John Rowland to James Bevers 284A in Amelia Co VA on the SS of Lazaritta [Lazaretto] Crk on the edge of Beaver Pond on SS of crk adj Henry Roberson and Edward Roberson. DB 2 Pg 548 20 Nov 1747. 3. Robert Rowland to Christopher Roberson Jr L2 S10 60A NS Lazaritta [Lazaretto] Crk adj Edward Roberson, Mathew Cabaniss. DB 2 Pg 552 20 Nov 1747. It appears this Robert Rowland is found in 1780 in Botetourt Co VA. 4. John Millner and Isabella his wife, of Amelia to John Beesley of same, land on Lazaretta Creek, being land patented to Robert Rowland on 25 Sep 25 1746, adj lines of Henry Robertson, Thomas Payne, Oliver Jeter, Bagley, King and Nathaniel Robertson's mill pond. William Yarbro appointed Surveyor of a Road to be cleared from the head of James Andersons road to the head of Coldwater run upon the Ridge between Nottoway and the Lazaretta the 7 persons to do the Same Henry Yarbro, Christo: Robertson Jr, Edw Robertson, Rob Rowland and Richard Hix. Amelia Co VA. 7. 17 Sep 1742 O. S. Pg 219. Ordered the Sheriff pay Edward Robertson and Robert Rowland for Building a Bridge over Deep Creek at Peter Jones's quarter Nine pounds. Amelia Co VA. Pittsylvania Co VA DB 4 Pg 216 28 Oct 1775 from John Rowland and Mary, his wife, of Pittsylvania Co to James and Robert Donald and Co, merchants and partners, of Great Britain for L215 one certain tract of land in Pittsylvania on Irvin or Smiths river, being the same tract of land in Pittsylvania Co Rowland purchased of Lander Richardson by Pittsylvania deed and bounded by the dividing line between sd Rowland and Peter Copland, containing 450A. S/John Rowland. Wit: John Murchie, Harry Innes, Anne (X) McCraw. Rec 23 May 1776. Pittsylvania Co VA DB 4 Pg 344 19 May 1777 from William Peters Martin of Halifax Co to John Rowland of Henry Co for L25 one certain tract of land in Pittsylvania Co and bounded Richard Farthing and Jesse Robinson, Joseph Parsons, James Metcalfe, Thomas Harris. S/Wm Peters Martin. Wit: none. Rec 22 May 1777. A 1780 Tax List finds the other Rowland's in Henry Co VA. The Tax List has George, John, Baldwin, Michael and John Rowland Sr. Note: 5-7-1780 will of John Rowland Henry Co VA: To my brother Michael Rowland's eldest son William Rowland, one cow and calf. To Michael Rowland, brother of said Michael, 1 sh. and no more. To my brother George Rowland, all my right to a tract I formerly obtained a deed of trust from George Lamkin, lying on Marrowbone Creek. To John Palfree, all my right to a survey whereon he now lives, together with my wearing apparel. My whole estate be dept together, creditors allowed three years or longer to bring in their accounts. To my wife Mary, out of the profits of my estate 200 lbs. annually, but should the currency of the money rise in value then a proper deduction to be made. To Obedience Ryan, wife of Philip Ryan, in considerstion of my wife's standing to this my last will, one Negro girl Phillis. To George Rowland Jr. and William Rowland, sons of Gilbert Rowland, each of them 1/6 part of the net proceeds annualy after paying taxes, clothing the Negroes, corn, meat, stock of all kinds, my just debts and the clothing and education of Garland Akin excepted. To the two sons of Joshua Bowles, dec'd, 199 lb. each for their education to be paid to their mother Sarah Bowles or their trustees. Legacies heretofore mentioned to be null and void except as to my said wife after Garland Akin arrives to the age of 21. Then to Garland Akin one-half of real and personal estate. The other moity equally divided amongst the youngest sons of all my brothers' and sisters'sons. My executors to execute a deed to John Wells for a tract sold him on Leatherwood Creek, 280 acres conveyed to me by a deed recorded in the General court from Paul Carrington, Esq. George Rowland, Jr. to be appointed as clerk for the estate if agreeable to my executors. To Mary Isham, wife of James Isham, two cows and calves. My Negro man Will and his wife Betty be kept together distilling at the proper season of the year, to wit from the first day of November to last day of April. Wm Tunstall to John Fontaine and Geo Hairston, where as Wm Tunstall had as bondsmen the above when he was appointed executor of the estate of John Rowland, deceased; now they are uneasy and fearing for their security-ship and William Tunstall desiring to make them safe, puts up as security the following slaves: Biddy, Ned, Sandy, Patt, Sarah, John, Dolly, Lewis, Robinson, Rachel and Polly. George Rowland was born in Rhosybayvil, Bayvil Parish, Pembrokeshire, Wales the son of Thomas Rowland, also of that parish. Thomas Rowland purchased 1,000 acres of land in the Welsh Tract of Chester Co PA from William Penn on 3 March 1691. A little later another brother, John Rowland, also purchased land in the Welsh Tract 2. Robert Rowland was in the Augusta County Militia in 1742 under George Robinson. 3. John Rowland d 1728 in Chester Co PA. 4. Rowlands moved to Botetourt Co VA in the 1740's. Botetourt Co formed 1770. 5. James Rowland, s/o Robert of Augusta/Botetourt Co VA had land dealings with Joshua Hadley, whose first wife was Martha Rowland 1706-1734 d/o Thos and Mary Mason Rowland of Chester Co PA. 6. Augusta Co 13 Nov 1764 Deed book 11 Pg 731 Thomas Hadley to James Rowland L130 549A on Catawbo Creek... first surveyed in two tracts and conveyed to Thomas Hadley by Borden... March Court 1762. 7. William & Sarah Potts Rowland children: i. Elizabeth Rowland b 14 Jan 1763 in Botetourt Co VA married Isham Burks 26 Jan 1781 in Botetourt Co. Her uncle Thomas Rowland post bond. Was bound to George Graham after death of his grandfather (Robert Rowland). He married Sarah "Sally" Little 19 Jun 1790 in Mercer Co. KY. iii. John Rowland b 15 Aug 1766 in Botetourt Co VA d 11 Jan 1843 in Harrisburg, Boone Co MO married Nancy Barnett 13 Apr 1796 in Mercer Co.
