It is believed that James Graham emigrated from either Ireland or Scotland as a young man. He lived
most of his adult life in Lancaster Co, PA., moving to Rowan Co, NC with his sons sometime between
1740-50. His wife does not appear to be buried in the same church yard, so it is thought she died

WILL of JAMES GRAHAM In the name of God Amen. This second day of September in the year of our Lord
One Thousand Seven Hundred Eighty-eight, I James Graham of Rowan County State of North Carolina being
old and infirm, but of perfect mind and memory thanks be given to God. Therefore calling unto mind and
memory the mortality of my body and knowing it is appointed for men to die, Do make this my last will
and Testament (that is to say) Principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul into the hands
of God that gave it, hoping through merit of death and intercession of my Lord and saviour Jesus
Christ , to have full and free pardon and forgiveness of all my sins and to inherit everlasting life,
and my body I commit the earth to be buried in a decent Christian burial at the discretion of my
executor hereafter named , nothing doubting but to receive the same again at the General resurrection
by the mighty power of God and as touching such worthy estate were with it has pleased God to bless
me with in this life. I give, bequeath & devise and depose of in the following manner and form (viz)
First my will and pleasure is that all those debts and duties as I do owe in right or conscience in
any manner or person or persons whomsoever shall be well and truly contacted and paid or on aimed to
be paid in some convenient time after my decease by my Executor hereafter named. Item I give and bequeath to my beloved son Richard Graham my Negro boy (called Peter) and to his heirs and assigns forever. Item I give and bequeath to my loving daughter Jane Graham my Negro girl (called Florah) to her heirs and assigns forever. Item I give and bequeath to my beloved grandson James Graham, son of my son John Graham, my Negro boy (called Joe) to him and his heirs and assigns forever. Item I give and bequeath unto my three sons, John, Richard and James all my wearing apparel to be divided equally among them and to their heirs and assigns. Item I give and bequeath and devise unto my said loving son James Graham and to his heirs and assigns forever and all and singular the remainder and residue of my estate both real and personal Whom also I name, ordain and constitute and appoint whole and sole Executor of this my Last Will and testament hereby revoking and disannuling all former and other wills, Testaments, Bequests, Demises and Executors by me in any way before this time made wills Bequeathed Demised or appointed, Ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my Last Will and Testament. In witness thereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this month, day and year above written.
