Dated April 15, 1748 Goochland Co., VA Will Book 6, Page 12:
In the name of God Amen I John Maddox Senior of Goochland County do make and Ordaine this my last Will & Testament in manner & forme following viz ~ Imprimise I give & devise unto three Sons namely Benj Jacob Jeames one parsill of land containing foure Hundred Ackers lying in Goochland County on the South side of Jeames River in southern Parrish lying on the brantchhes of Deep Creeke to be Equally devided to them & their heirs forever Item I give and devise unto my two sons namely John David one parsill of Land containing three Hundred and twenty six ackers being in Goochland County on the North side of Jeames river in Northam Parrish it being the plantation where I now dwell on my selfe to them and their heirs forever (Interlined before assined to be Equally devided). Item I give and devise unto my Daughter Sarah the wife of Jos East one cow & calfe one young mare unto hir and hir Heirs forever Item my will further is that the Residue of my Estate what is over & above paying my debts and all charges _________ to me be Equally devided among my five Daughters & my eldest Son William, Eliz, Sarah, Suanah, Ann, Elebeth to them & their heirs forever Lastly I do hereby appoint my Loving Son William Maddox to be my Executor and my Loving wife Elebeth to this my last will & testament. Testimony whereof I sett my hand and affix my seal this fifteenth day of April 1748 John Maddox (seal) These being the Witnesses of John Maddox’s will Jos Woodson Wm Addams (his mark) Wm Maddox At a court held for Goochland County August 15, 1749 Jos. Woodson & Wm Adams came into Court & prov’d this writing to be the last Will & Testament of John Maddox dec’d which was ordered to be recorded. |
